FAQ – Flame-Retardant Construction and Protective Sheeting (DIN 4102 B1)
1. What fire safety classification do TÜCHLER construction and protective sheets have?
All variants are tested as flame-retardant according to DIN 4102 B1. While this German standard is recognized or accepted in many European countries, it is not a harmonized EU classification. For international projects, we recommend consulting the local fire authorities.
2. How do TÜCHLER protective sheets differ from standard construction films?
TÜCHLER construction and protective sheets are flame-retardant (DIN 4102 B1) and free from visible DIN markings or stamps, making them ideal for visible decorative applications where both fire safety and a clean aesthetic are essential.
3. What colours are available?
The films are available in black and white:
Black: highly darkening; light-blocking in multilayer use
White: translucent with approx. 40–50% light transmission; ideal for lighting effects and projections
4. What sizes are available?
The films are rolled at 1 m wide and can be unfolded to 4 m in total width. Each roll is 50 m long.
5. What are the intended applications?
TÜCHLER B1 sheets are designed for stage, decoration, scenic design, exhibitions, and event construction – anywhere neutral appearance and fire protection are equally required.
6. Are the sheets suitable for light projections?
Yes. The white translucent version is well-suited for light projections, coloured lighting, and textured light effects.
Please note: The material naturally contains creases and fold lines, creating a crash effect in the light.
7. Can the sheets be reused?
Yes – with proper handling, the sheets can be reused multiple times depending on wear and method of installation.
8. Is DIN 4102 B1 equivalent to a European standard?
No. DIN 4102 B1 is a German classification, widely recognized across Europe but not identical to EN 13501-1. For use outside Germany, confirm with local authorities whether DIN 4102 B1 is accepted as proof of compliance.
9. Are the sheets water-resistant?
Yes. The polyethylene material is moisture-resistant and suitable for temporary outdoor use.
10. Can the sheets be welded or glued?
Yes. They can be processed using suitable PE welding tools, film adhesives, or gaffer tapes.
A material test is recommended before use.
High-frequency welding (as used with projection films) is not possible.
11. What is the temperature resistance of the sheets?
Designed for indoor use, the sheets are suitable for temperatures from −20 °C to +60 °C.
12. How are the sheets delivered?
The films are delivered as rolls in 1 m width, folded and expandable to 4 m width on-site.
13. Are custom cuts available?
Yes. Custom sizes and lengths are available on request.
14. Can the sheets be digitally printed?
No.
15. Are test certificates or approvals available?
Yes. Fire safety certificates (DIN 4102 B1) and technical data sheets are available for free download after login on the TÜCHLER website.
16. Can the sheets be used in visible areas?
Yes. Since they are free from distracting DIN prints, the sheets are suitable for visible surfaces in stage and decorative setups.
Note: The material will always show creases and folds, resulting in crash-light effects.
17. How should the sheets be disposed of?
Made of polyethylene (PE), the films can be recycled by type or disposed of according to local regulations.
18. What advantages do TÜCHLER protective sheets offer compared to standard construction films?
They are flame-retardant, visually neutral, free from DIN markings, and specifically developed for professional stage and decoration use – both technically and visually optimised.
19. Can the sheets be combined with other materials?
Yes. They are compatible with other B1-certified materials such as stage molton, projection films, or decorative fabrics. Always ensure that spacing and fire safety norms are observed and evaluate on a case-by-case basis.
20. Where can the sheets be ordered?
The DIN 4102 B1 flame-retardant construction and protective sheets are available directly via the TÜCHLER web shop.
Technical support, data sheets, and certificates are available free of charge after login.
