Where Tradition Meets Innovation: Multifunctional Event Space in a Historic Winery Setting

The Bergtrotte Osterfingen, located in the canton of Schaffhausen, is one of Switzerland’s most prestigious cultural and event venues. The heritage-listed half-timbered structure, originally built in 1584, was sensitively expanded with a contemporary, light-flooded event and conference hall. Nestled in the heart of a scenic wine region, this multifunctional venue accommodates up to 120 guests and is designed to meet the highest demands in acoustics, spatial flexibility, and architectural integration – ideal for conferences, seminars, corporate events, weddings, or concerts.

Architectural Challenge: Flexible Room Division Beneath a Sloped Ceiling

A key design objective for the architects was to provide a flexible room separation solution to accommodate parallel sessions or smaller breakout groups. The complexity: the ceiling follows a pronounced roof pitch of approx. 30 degrees. The requirement: the curtain system should divide the space without interrupting the visual clarity of the architecture and remain completely concealed when not in use.

Globally Unique Standard System: T‑LOK RollerCoaster Excels on Angled Tracks with Precision and Full Automation

For this demanding installation, TÜCHLER supplied its globally unique automated curtain track system: the T‑LOK RollerCoaster motorised drive operating on the TT2 track. This is the only standardised system on the global market capable of moving heavy curtains along both horizontal and steeply inclined or curved ceiling paths – precisely, automatically, and without requiring custom engineering.

At Bergtrotte Osterfingen, the double-layered, approx. 50 kg curtain travels approximately 20 metres horizontally along the room’s longitudinal axis, then rotates 90 degrees to follow a ceiling incline of 30 degrees down to the floor – covering a vertical difference of 2.2 metres. This is achieved using TÜCHLER’s TT2 curved track system in combination with the self-propelled T‑LOK RollerCoaster motor.

Powered by a 24 V DC motor delivering 150 N traction, the system ensures smooth operation even on complex routing paths, with travel speeds up to 40 cm/s. The KNX-compatible control system allows precise positioning, intermediate stops, and integration into modern building management systems – with optional control via wall switches or UDP protocol. In this installation, power is supplied via contact rails and brush connections.

Installer-Friendly Design: Entire System Installed by the Client

A particularly noteworthy detail: the entire curtain system was installed by the venue’s in-house team. This highlights the installation-friendly system design, modular architecture, and clear documentation provided by TÜCHLER – making it highly attractive for architects, theatre consultants, and AV integrators looking for plug-and-play solutions without the need for custom fabrication.

Architectural & Acoustic Integration: Multi-Layer Chenille Drape

In addition to technical performance, acoustic performance and visual design were key. The curtain is made from Chenille Gulda in a multi-layer configuration, effectively reducing unwanted reverberation and echo – critical in settings involving speech, music or live performance.

The curtain features a dual-colour design: one side light grey, the other light brown – chosen to harmonise with the venue’s natural materials, including timber and exposed concrete. When not in use, the curtain retracts seamlessly into a concealed parking area – with no visible hardware.

Ideal for Architects, Designers & Theatre Planners: Scalable, Standardised, Design-Led

This project is a compelling reference for architects, technical designers, and stage engineers. The TT2 track – with bend radii from just 35 cm – and the T‑LOK drive system offer predictable, scalable curtain movement even in complex geometries. No special constructions are required, while maintaining complete design flexibility.

The system combines intelligent control, precision engineering and premium soft goods to form a fully integrated solution for multi-purpose spaces. It is cost-effective, architecturally compatible, and optionally installable by the client – making it ideal for theatres, conference venues, and hybrid event spaces.

Conclusion: Architectural Curtain System with Maximum Flexibility – Functional, Aesthetic, Future-Proof

The curtain installation at Bergtrotte Osterfingen demonstrates how TÜCHLER’s standardised curtain automation systems can meet unique architectural challenges with elegance and efficiency. For architects, AV consultants, and theatre professionals, it provides a benchmark for how motorised drape systems can be successfully integrated into heritage-sensitive, multifunctional venues – with full control, flawless motion, and minimalist aesthetics.
